When we came up with the idea for online real estate, we had visions of people sitting on their sofas in their PJs buying and selling homes. Much like people buy a car on trademe, book a bach on AirBnB or buy some new shoes online - all from the comfort of their home.

We never imagined that a global pandemic would see thousands of people isolated to their homes, making the business model essential in today’s world of self isolation.

As people contemplate days on end, isolated in their homes we are seeing a surge in online buying and selling activity. From ordering groceries online to avoid visiting supermarkets where shelves are empty, to buying online to circumvent the mass shopping mall market. While online shopping could be described as a faceless experience, this social distancing business model is uniquely positioned to thrive in times where we need to conduct business while limiting human contact. And real estate is no different.

At you can literally buy or sell a home without leaving your sofa. Sure, you might want to take a physical tour of the property before you purchase, but you are not restricted to specific open home times where hordes of other prospective buyers are snooping about.

You can arrange a one-on one tour of the home with the agent or property owner, or take a visual tour online. For a confident buyer, the photography and or videography coupled with the floor plans, building reports, valuations and comparative market analysis provide you with everything you could possibly need to make an informed buying decision.

Furthermore, there is no need to get in the car and turn up to a packed auction room, feel intimidated and shake hands with several agents while playing your buying strategy over in your head. You can literally log in to your device from the safety of your own home at a convenient auction time and let your mouse do the work.

Alternatively, if the house is being sold by negotiation, you can simply login to Proppy and then, submit your offer online. Your offer will then be checked by a licensed real estate agent and approved ready for you to sign. And of course, your local Proppy expert is waiting by the telephone to discuss conditions or any questions you may have so you have full support throughout the process.

The world is changing and who knows what impact this unfortunate virus will have on our precious world. What we do know is that we need to adapt and change, and we are proud to be at the forefront of change for the real estate business in New Zealand - changing it for the good.

Stay healthy and be kind,

Tyson and Hannah
